The world economy is estimated to have expanded by 3.1 per cent in 2015, but the number of unemployed people reached 197.1 million in 2015 –approaching 1 million more than in the previous year, according to a report by the International Labour Organisation. That said, unemployment in itself is not a doom or a complete shutdown of man’s ability and willingness to make a decent living. Here are ways to go about it.
Opportunity to Think Deep
Not many are forced or compelled by circumstances to think of how to make money with the skills, talent and assets they possess. For many full-time workers, there is little or no reason to think of other ways of making money –and even when they do, there is a bigger inertia towards taking the first step. The discomfort that unemployment causes, can be used as stimulant for the mind to think of creative ways to make a decent living, albeit legally.
Opportunity to Take Action
Being free from the 9-5 tentacles of active employment can be an opportunity to get out there on your own and make some bucks. There are full-time workers who wish they had the weekdays to themselves so they can get out and make money –more than their employers pay them. And in fact, some actually resign their day jobs to pursue their dreams. If you are unemployed, you have the weekdays to yourself to generate some money. There are many avenues and opportunities out there to make money even when you’re unemployed. Identify what you can do on your own and take action!
Opportunity to Network
There’s something that the unemployed has that many full-time workers long for, and that is time and freedom. You have time to go wherever you want and whenever you want. Use this opportunity to network. Go out there and meet people, talk to them, discuss business opportunities and how you can fit in with your skill set. You’ll never know what opportunity awaits you until you step out. Go to places where you’re likely to meet successful businessmen and women and take the opportunity to network. It is upon these relationships that you’ll leverage to start and grow a sustainable business.
Opportunity to Sell
There’s definitely a skill, talent or something you possess that people will be willing to pay for. As an unemployed, you’ll have an opportunity to sell your skills to others to earn real cash. You also have an opportunity to sell products and services of businesses for commissions while maintaining your freedom to go anywhere at any time.
There are many successful people who were once unemployed and many more rich and famous people who were even homeless, let alone employment. Employment should be viewed as just one of the many routes to earning financial substance. Being unemployed is definitely not an end. Use it as an opportunity to go out there and make a successful living.
